The Mac Mini is the only real option for a mini pc in the Apple Universe. But it’s a good one, though not cheap. But if you are an Apple fan you probably don’t care. There are a lot of options for this, ranging from a basic unit that will support two 4K@60Hz TVs to one that will support one or more high resolution TVs including 8K@60Hz.
The low end Apple 2023 Mac Mini Desktop with M2 chip easily will handle two 4K@60Hz displays with the Dual Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI output. In fact Apple says it will support 1 display at 6K@60Hz and one at 5K@60Hz over thunderbolt and one 4K@60Hz over HDMI, but a maximum of two displays.
Now when you move on to the higher end Mac Mini 2023 with M2 Pro Chip, you can get up to three simultaneous displays. Two 6K@60Hz with the Dual Thunderbolt 4 and one 4K@60Hz with the HDMI connection. This begs the question, what about 8K? Well I can’t find anything on the Apple site, but it looks like it is doable, at least for a single 8K@60Hz display. This comes with 512 GB but is upgradable to 8 TB. More than enough for most media libraries. Not enough? Get a NAS. It also comes with 16GB of memory. If you go with the triple monitors/TV support you probably want to take advantage of the ability to upgrade to 32GB.
Is this good quality? Sure. Is it expensive? Sure! Is it Apple? Of course! But for an Apple fan it is what it is.

The memory is adequate at 16GB. Not the latest technology with DDR4 but it will support the video server just fine. The 500GB of storage should be sufficient for at least 100 full length 4K movies, and with 4 USB 3.2 ports available you can always add external storage as you need it.

This is a great little mini PC. For the price of an entry level mac mini, you get a Ryzen 9, 32GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
English please??? OK it means you can have dual 4K@60Hz and a third 8K@60Hz display. The Radeon 680M Graphics card works ok for this, but it’s not a premium gaming machine.
I like the 32GB of RAM. It’s the latest technology DDR5 so it’s fast and efficient. And it’s upgradable to 64GB. Not sure why you would want to do that for a home theater, but it’s nice to have that option for future-proofing.
I don’t like the 512GB of storage. It’s not enough… but this machine CAN be upgraded to up to 2TB. Not bad really. And there’s always adding a NAS to the mix.
One more cool thing about this machine. Into Linux? Users have reported that it’s easy to do move from Windows 11 to several different linux distros.

But what it does have is on all cylinders! A fast Ryzen 9 processor with 8 cores and up to 5.2 GHz speed. Fast 32 GB DDR5 memory. 2 TB of storage. And triple 4K support; really two 4K@60Hz and one 8K@60Hz.
The memory is expandable to 64GB. For gaming maybe. But I don’t think you’ll need it today for a home entertainment system. But it’s future-proofing!

OK I know what it says. So why did I include this?
I think there is a definite crossover between the terms “gaming system” and “home theater”. After all, kids and grown ups are people too. And some of them like to play games on their computer. So why not have a combined unit if you can afford it?
There are better gaming systems for sure. This is a great crossover though for the price.
The Enthusiast is of course a top level mini pc for a home theater for the price. The i7-12700H has 14 cores for great multi-processing with speeds up to 4.7 GHz.
It has 32 GB of DDR4 RAM. Not the fastest RAM, but that seems to be a common theme among gaming PCs not sure why.
What it DOES have is a top-notch graphics card. The Intel Arc A770M allows you to run up to FIVE monitors!! Four 4K screens display and up to 8K single screen displays.
And 1TB of internal storage and you can add two more SSDs.
Sooo you don’t want to play games?
